Opponent Scouting: Philadelphia 76ers.
Tonight the Pistons will be playing against the Sixers in Philadelphia at 7pm EST. The game is not going to be televised so if you want to watch it you will have to find a stream or watch on league pass.
The Sixers are not as fun as they could've been if Ben Simmons was playing, but Joel Embiid will probably play 18 minutes and he has looked pretty good so far. Dario Saric looks erratic but is kind of fun as well. But the reality is that so far in the preseason they are playing a TON of guys, with 7 guys over 20mpg and the highest is TJ McConnell at 25, and 8 more guys over 10 minutes per game. So I'm not going to bother too much with their whole rotation lol. I don't think that Noel or Okafor are supposed to be playing tonight either but that could be wrong.
Matchups to watch:
Andre vs. Embiid: (if Andre plays) Andre vs. Embiid is probably the most interesting matchup to watch, even if Embiid is only playing going to play about 18 minutes. Most of the intrigue though is of course with Embiid, whether Andre plays or not.
KCP vs. Not being awful: You can't overreact to his poor shooting although it isn't a good sign. What you can overreact to is that KCP has just been playing bad basketball, taking bad shots and making bad plays. He still hasn't really gotten a chance to shine of defense yet, and that will change at some point, but he has to at least start playing smarter basketball than he has been, even if he still misses his shots. (Although of course it would be nice if he could hit them.)
Lorenzo Brown vs. Standing out: McCallum played decently in the last game, but he didn't do anything spectacular, if Brown could manage to really play well it would be a good sign for the team and for Brown's hopes of making the team. Based on what they have shown so far it is a very close battle for the last roster spot, and if one of them have one really good game it could make the difference.
Starting lineup? Marcus Morris will likely be getting the night off again, and possibly Andre as well. SVG started Baynes and Leuer in the last game, and has said that he might shake that up this game if both Morris and Andre sit out. This could mean any number of things, possibly even someone unexpectedly getting the night off.
Pistons vs. Running pick and rolls: Started running some with Ish Smith last game, and the offense started to look alright for the first time. Hopefully they keep running them in order to keep building chemistry with Ish and the starting lineup.
So in conclusion...
Wink knowingly at your friends if:
KCP doesn't take horrible shots and even starts hitting them.
Ish puts up a 20/10 game.
Lorenzo Brown actually does literally anything of note.
Run for the hills if:
KCP keeps bricking away bad shots.
Joel Embiid eats Andre alive.
The Pistons don't run any pick and rolls again.
Opportunities for me to look stupid:
Lots of pick and rolls, lots of good looks for the Pistons.
Embiid keeps looking good but hella raw.
Stanley Johnson starts.
What do you think? What will the starting lineup be? Will KCP find his shot?
