Opponent Scouting: Brooklyn Nets.

Brooklyn Nets Preview

Hello good and beautiful people! NBA basketball will be played by the Detroit Pistons tonight against the Brooklyn Nets at 7:30 tonight! The game is in Brooklyn. Please keep in mind as well that since this is a preseason game, guys may or may not play. It happens.

In case you're new here:

So if you were not around these parts last year you may be wondering “Who is this JoeTruck fellow and why is he always on my screen?” Well, I had been wanting better coverage of the Pistons, there had not really been any coverage that really satisfied me, so on (largely) a whim, I decided to just do it myself. I will be providing previews and reviews for every single game this season as long as I have time, which essentially means that I will skip one every once in a while because that Pizza isn't going to eat itself. If you're new, welcome and I hope you like the posts.

The Them:

The Nets figure to be pretty bad. This much is certain, although I personally don't think they will be as bad as a lot of people do. They do have Brook Lopez, and he is legitimately a monster who is kind of terrifying. Jeremy Lin is finally getting his chance to run his own team, which on one hand will be fun to see how he does, but on the other hand is a chance for him to prove once and for all that he is really a backup. Other than those 2 the Nets did sign a few proven veteran rotation players in Luis Scola, Trevor Booker, and Randy Foye who should be fairly steady presences.

Beyond that though, they just have a bunch of young dudes who may or may not end up being any good. Sean Kilpatrick can score, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson can play defense, Chris McCullough is an interesting stretch 4 prospect. There is a decent chance that this team will be alright this year, but they have a definite ceiling and they will pretty much go as far as Brook Lopez drags them.

Matchups to watch:

  • Andre vs. Free throws: Yeah. Lets see if the VR worked.

  • Andre vs. Lopez: Best player on the floor for each team will be going at it. It may be preseason but it should still be pretty fun to watch them play. Because they are both freaking huge, and their games are almost exact opposites.

  • Pistons vs. Offense without Reggie: There is a chance Reggie is ready for the season opener, but if he is going to miss games, it would make me feel much better if Ish looks great with the starters.

  • Brown vs. McCallum: I don't know what the minutes will be divided like, but this is the main thing to watch for the Pistons this preseason, who will win the 3rd guard spot?

So in conclusion...

Wink knowingly at your friends if:

  • Andre hits a bunch of free throws.

  • No matter who/how much they play, Brown and/or McCallum look good.

  • Ish is a freaking terror finally getting to play with a real NBA team.

Run for the hills if:

  • Andre misses a bunch of free throws.

  • Ish looks not good.

  • Jeremy Lin looks like a star again.

Opportunities for me to look stupid:

  • Andre hits the free throws.

  • Ish and the starters look awesome.

  • Brown outplays McCallum.
