Opponent Scouting: Washington Bullets. 24-28.
Tonight the Pistons will be in D.C. to play against the Wizards at 7pm EST. tonight. The Wizards are coming off a solid win last night against the Jazz. The Pistons are playing their first game back from the break and the Wizards are on the second of a back to back. (obviously)
The Them: The Wizards are a bit tricky to nail down exactly how good they are. On one hand, they have had some injuries that have held them up this season. John Wall is awesome, and when Bradley Beal is 100% they form one of the better back courts in the NBA. Marcin Gortat is a really good two way player who has no obvious holes in his game, Otto Porter is a decent 3 and D type who but is not shooting all that well. And I guess Jared Dudley is a solid stretch 4. HOWEVA, other than that, there is not a whole lot the Wizards have, and in a lot of ways the Wizards just have the feel of a team that has the wrong combination of topping out and injuries that they might just not be all that good. The biggest question I have about the team is what would happen to them without John Wall? Is John Wall literally the only thing keeping this team from being absolutely terrible or is he part of the Wizards topping out as a just not very good team. (I lean towards him being the only thing keeping them from total horribleness.) In the end though, John Wall is pretty much the offense, he is constantly slashing and attacking the hoop and then kicking the ball out to shooters. Him and Marcin Gortat are a really solid PnR pairing, and that is really the main thing in the offense for them. Bradley Beal is playing but came off the bench in the last game but he can really shoot and score in a variety of ways. Jared Dudely is a good stretch 4. Nene is not totally miserable but he is not much good anymore. Otto Porter can defend and score in a few different ways. Honestly, they have other guys obviously, but nothing of much note. John Wall is awesome, but other than that I just don't like watching this team quite frankly. (No offense Washington)
Matchups to watch:
TOBIAS HARRIS: Tobias Harris is going to be playing tonight (and neither the others are expected to play) and he should be a fun piece for the team. It has been talked about a whole lot already but just watch him for how he does. He is also expected to come off the bench (for the first 3 games allegedly)
Reggie vs. Wall: There is a small amount of bad blood between them. They are both really good athletes who also love to live in the paint and they both have huge offensive loads to carry. They both probably will be going at each other for parts of the night and that should be the best thing about the game tonight.
KCP vs. Health: KCP is supposed to be back tonight. Everything I have seen has said that he is totally ready to go but you still want to watch for it.
SVG vs. Rotations: The Pistons will be a couple guys short tonight obviously and while there is only one new guy playing tonight, so the Pistons will have to shake things up a bit so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
Bench mob without Jennings: The bench without Jennings was freaking horrible. Jennings is now gone. With Tobias Harris coming off the bench for at least a few games it should make it less painful but hopefully the bench does not totally die.
Cackle with knowing glee if:
Tobias Harris scores 30 points and is constantly bewildered by how open he is for 3s around the Jackson/Drummond PnR.
The bench does not totally die without Jennings.
Reggie goes full on beast mode and wins his matchup with Wall.
Run for the hills if:
Harris does not pass the ball once and misses a bunch of super contested jumpers.
John Wall commits murder on Reggie.
The Pistons look rusty and/or the loss of continuity looks like an issue.
Opportunities for me to look stupid:
Tobias Harris scores 20 points and leads the bench to glory.
Reggie and Wall have a super fun duel with plenty of hero ball that is awesome.
KCP looks just fine.
The Wizards are a bit tired and the Pistons win a pretty close game.
What do you think? How will Harris do? Let me know! We all get smarter!
