Opponent Scouting: Boston Celtics. (36-21)
Tonight at 7:30pm EST the Pistons will be in Boston to play against the Celtics. The Pistons are on one day of rest after beating the Wizards on Monday while Boston is on the second night of a back to back after beating the Sixers last night.
For all the talk of how disappointing and screwed up the Celtics have been this season, they are still really good. All this talk has more to do with their expectations than anything.
Kyrie Irving is (probably) out tonight. Gordon Hayward is not the same, not yet at least, but he’s had some moments including a big game last night. Jayson Tatum hasn’t made the jump many hoped he would but he’s a multifaceted scorer who also plays defense. Jaylen Brown has been pretty poor but he’s recovered a bit from a terrible start to the season, Marcus Morris has been fantastic all season. Al Horford is still chugging along, do-everything on offense and great defender. Terry Rozier is a good defender and can shoot, Marcus Smart is a good defender and is actually shooting pretty well this season. Daniel Thiess is tall, strong, and can shoot a bit.
This team is 9th in offense and 5th in defense, they are really good.
Matchups to watch:
Andre vs. Horford: Andre has consistently given Horford and the Celtics tons of trouble. It is one of the biggest and most obvious advantages the Pistons have, especially if Baynes is out again.
Blake vs. All the Celtics: The Celtics have been as aggressive as anyone in sending doubles at Blake, which they can afford to do with the absurd amount of length they have on the floor most of the time. Blake will have to fight through it and teammates have to hit open shots.
Pistons vs. Finishing out strong: It’d be nice to head into the all-star break on a 5 game winning streak with the last one over the Celtics at home. That’d be very nice indeed.
Wayne Ellington vs. Hitting some shots: Lets not have a repeat of last time out please thank you.
Pistons vs. Marcus Morris: The Pistons have a lot of small wings now. We know full-well what Marcus can do to teams who throw small wings at him lol.
So in conclusion…
Wink knowingly at your friends if:
Andre has a double double by halftime.
Blake is fighting through and being effective.
The Celtics are gassed after a tough game last night.
Run for the hills if:
Marcus Morris has 30 by halftime.
The Celtics are keeping Blake in check like earlier in the season.
Reggie Jackson comes crashing down.
Opportunities for me to look stupid:
